Michal Bobek graduated from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague, where he studied law and international relations. He also completed a Diploma in English and EU Law at the University of Cambridge, a Magister Juris at the University of Oxford (St Edmund Hall), and non-degree studies at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) and the University of Queensland (Australia). He was awarded a Doctor of Laws by the European University Institute in Florence.

He worked as Legal Secretary to the President of the Supreme Administrative Court from 2005 to 2009, and as Head of the Department of Documentation and Analytics at the same court from 2008 to 2009. He also conducted research and taught as a Fellow (2011–2012) and Research Fellow (2013–2015) at the University of Oxford's Institute of European and Comparative Law. He was a professor at the College of Europe in Bruges (2013–2015).  He served as Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union from 2015 to 2021.  Michal Bobek is the author of numerous publications in the fields of European law, comparative law, human rights law, legal theory, and legal history.  He is an invited lecturer and visiting professor at various universities in Europe and overseas, and is currently a guest professor at the Institute of European, International and Comparative Law at the University of Vienna.
